Help Us Bring a Mosaic to Life on Southport Corridor!
The Lakeview Public Art Committee and Special Service Area (SSA) 27 are proud to bring a community-driven mosaic to West Lakeview this spring! The mosaic will be installed on the south wall of the UPS Store located at 3501 N. Southport Ave. and will represent the connectivity of Lakeview across the four seasons.
Our aim is to engage the community in all aspects of the mosaic; from conception to execution, we've looked to local residents and businesses for input, ideas and feedback. Now, we are calling on YOU to help us bring the mosaic to life. That's right – we are holding open workshops for the community to contribute to the mosaic tiling and installation! Led by our project partner Greenstar Movement, these workshops will take place onsite at the mosaic wall of 3501 N. Southport Ave. and will provide an opportunity to help create West Lakeview's first mosaic. The community tiling workshops will be held during the following dates and times:
Wednesday, May 11th - Friday, May 13th: 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Wednesday, May 18th - Friday, May 20th: 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM
WEATHER UPDATE: We still plan to proceed with the workshop scheduled for May 18th from 3:00 - 6:00 PM. If the rain returns, the workshop may end early.
Join us for 5 minutes or for the full 3 hours, on just one of the scheduled days or all six days. Bring your friends, families, colleagues, or just yourself. There is NO wrong way to get involved and RSVPs are not required for small groups, so you can join us at any point during the above dates and times! There are no age restrictions for participation, but children will require adult supervision and all participants will need to sign a release waiver and should wear closed-toed shoes. Participants will help with tiling and grouting, and can view a video online here for an idea of what to expect.
This mosaic is fully funded by Special Service Area 27. For more information on the Lakeview Public Art Committee and public art in West Lakeview, click here or contact Nicole McLellan at Nicole@lrvcc.org or 773 471 7171 x102 with any questions.
